Tissue specificity: Expressed in all tissues, except liver, with high expression in placenta, lung, spleen and veins. Ref.1
Domain: The conserved cysteine present in the cysteine-switch motif binds the catalytic zinc ion, thus inhibiting the enzyme. The dissociation of the cysteine from the zinc ion upon the activation-peptide release activates the enzyme.
Post-translational modification: The precursor is cleaved by a furin endopeptidase.

Three isoforms of ADAM33 can be found from NCBI by following the links below. These isoforms are produced by alternative splicing.
Isoform 1 - Alpha Helix -mRNA sequence -proprotein sequence Isoform 2 - Transcript Variant: This variant (2) lacks an in-frame exon in the coding region, as compared to variant 1. It encodes isoform beta, which lacks an internal segment at 636-661, but has the same N- and C-termini as isoform alpha. -mRNA sequence -proprotein sequence Isoform 3 - This form differs from Isoform alpha, by missing internal segments at 1-478 and 636-661. Protein Motifs
